Sparking new conversations.

For over fifteen years, Guinness and God has offered a space for young adults, university students and young professionals to gather in the very heart of Canberra city to open up conversations around life and faith.

The format for each gathering is simple: participants gather with friends over dinner and drinks before hearing from a guest speaker which is followed by an opportunity to ask questions and seek new perspectives.

Over the years we have engaged Australian church leaders, political figures, professional athletes, diplomats, media personalities and justice advocates.

We believe Guinness & God holds space for valuable conversations to take place and where great ideas and inspiration can be birthed. Join us.

About Our Speaker

Born in Sri Lanka, Fr Chris de Souza moved to Sydney at a young age. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1983 for the Archdiocese of Sydney, and then ministered in the Diocese of Parramatta since it was erected in 1986. In addition to many parish appointments over the past four decades, Fr Chris also held senior roles in the diocese including Vicar General and as an Episcopal Vicar for a number of key ministry areas.

Since becoming General Secretary last August, Fr Chris leads a team that works to ensure that our Bishops have everything they need to make decisions in the best interests of the Church collectively in Australia. This primarily involves making sure the various councils, commissions and committees, as well as the policy and research functions of the Conference works effectively in between the two week-long meetings the bishops have every year (in May and November).

Fr Chris’ important role in the Australian Church affords unique vantage points that allows him to see both challenges and opportunities for the Catholic community into the future. Join us for an insightful evening that we hope will leave you challenged, yet hopeful.
